MCWS / MEDP
Pharma Engineers Multi column water still (MCWS) / Multi column Distillation Plant (MCDP) are cGMP-compliant, ASME-designed plants that produce ultra-pure WFI meeting USP, IP, BP, and JP standards. Using thin film falling evaporation technology, the system ensures superior sterility and efficient pyrogen removal. Its hygienic, electro-polished, crevice-free design guarantees reliable performance for pharmaceutical storage and distribution applications.
Over the last 30 years, Pharma Engineers has been a leading supplier of Water for Injection (WFI) generation plants that meet all major international pharmacopoeial standards, including USP, IP, BP, and JP. These plants are manufactured in accordance with FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and ASME requirements, and operate on the principle of Thin Film Distillation by Falling Film Evaporation.
The system consists of shell-and-tube heat exchanger columns where heat transfer occurs through falling film evaporation. Extremely high temperatures are achieved for every drop of water, ensuring the sterility levels required for WFI. Separation of pyrogenic load is accomplished through centrifugal forces generated during the upward movement of steam.
During operation, both feed water and distilled water remain in continuous motion, eliminating stagnation. Impurities and pyrogenic contaminants are continuously purged from the final column. During start-up, pre-heating, and self-sanitization, any residual accumulated water is automatically drained before WFI production begins.
The plant is designed to be completely crevice-free to prevent stagnation and bacterial growth. All columns are designed in accordance with ASME specifications and are CE approved for PED regulations as per European Union requirements. All components in contact with WFI and Pure Steam are electro-polished. Pipe joints are orbitally welded, gaskets are made from pure PTFE (Teflon) or pharmaceutical-grade silicone, and the first column is equipped with a double tube sheet to prevent mixing of plant steam with pure steam in the event of a weld joint failure.
This state-of-the-art system delivers WFI quality suitable for storage and distribution, exceeding pharmacopoeial requirements worldwide.
